What is psychotherapy?

As defined by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario: psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. This can be achieved through discussing and expressing feelings; identifying and changing unhelpful perceptions and behaviours; and developing more effective ways of coping.

What should I know about online therapy?

Online therapy is comfortable, convenient and flexible. All sessions are secure and confidential (in compliance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act; PHIPA), and are provided through the online platform, Jane. All you need is access to the internet and a personal device, like a cell phone, laptop, or tablet, to participate in the session.

Are psychotherapy services covered by insurance?

Psychotherapy is covered under most health insurance benefit plans. Please check with your insurance provider to ensure coverage for Registered Psychotherapists. Receipts will be provided after payment, which can be submitted for reimbursement.

What methods of payment do you accept?

I accept credit cards and e-transfer payments.

How often should I schedule sessions?

It depends on what fits for you. Often, people find it helpful to attend therapy more frequently in the beginning (weekly or bi-weekly). This can help build safety and comfort, and develop a therapeutic relationship that supports your growth. As you continue in therapy, you may put more time between sessions (bi-weekly, 3-weeks, or monthly). That said, therapy doesn’t have to look like a straight line; this can be more fluid as your needs change.

How long can I expect to be in therapy?

This also depends on what fits for you. The length of time you choose to participate in therapy is truly based on your personal goals and needs.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask that you provide 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your session, except in emergency situations. This allows me to offer that spot to another person who may be waiting for an opening. If you provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss your session, you will be charged for the full cost of the session
